Victor Thabo Mkhabela was the only child of Paulina Motlalepula Mkhabela. He was born on 24 July 1964 in Koster and died on April 1.

He joined BMW in Rosslyn at a time when he was a member of the Soshanguve Civic Association as well as Soshanguve Residents Association.

It was at the BMW plant that he actively took part in the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa)

It was also during that time that the need arose for men and women to come forward to carry on the struggle to usher South Africa into a new era of democracy.

So Mkhabela took part in the Peace committee in Letlhabile in 1994 and as an election co-coordinator in the first democratic elections.

His good work earned him respect that resulted in his appointment as North West provincial organiser of the South African National Civic Organisation.

His political activism earned him a place in the Madibeng local municipality as a member of the mayoral committee responsible for community services.

Mkhabela worked for Performance Management Systems Integrated Development Plan (IDP), Communication and Intergovernmental Relations.

He and his wife Maria Malaka were blessed with three children, a son, Leonard, and two daughters, Thabiso and Kagiso.

His wife Maria and daughter Kagiso passed away and he later married Emily Mawelele and had two sons, Frank and Siphiwe.

He is survived by his mother Paulina, wife, three sons and a daughter.

His death is a great loss to the Madibeng local municipality, the communities at large, the region, the province and the country as a whole.

The funeral service will be held on tomorrow at the Letlhabile community hall from 7am and the cortege will afterwards proceed to Soshanguve cemetery.
