Metrorail has launched the Masibambisane anti-crime campaign.

It aims to fight train surfing, which has killed many young people in the last three years, and other criminal acts involving train commuters.

Also known as Our Trains, Our Lives, Our Future, it plans to cover all major routes in Gauteng.

"We will be undertaking the campaign together with law enforcement agencies, municipalities and commuter forums throughout the Gauteng region," said Metrorail regional manager Paul Zikhali.

Over the next three months Metrorail would hold roadshows and media campaigns throughout the region.

Metrorail runs 2,2 million passenger trips each weekday nationally.
