Cops warn people against swindlers offering false jobs

Police in Newcastle have warned th public to be on the lookout for a group of fraudsters who are robbing locals of thousands of rands by promising them nonexistent jobs.

Two people have been arrested but police say the mastermind, known as "Mama Dlamini", who allegedly poses as an agent for the Waterval Correctional Services Centre, Newcastle Provincial Hospital and the local Carbochem plant, is still on the run.

Some people have paid up to R1000 for cleaners' posts at the hospital and R2000 for jobs at the local prison.

l In another incident, two job-seekers were fleeced of R800 each in Newcastle by people using a similar modus operandi.

Police said the victims had been promised jobs at Sprinklake Mine. Anyone with information is asked to call Inspector Oupa Vilakazi on 082-488-7965.
