Only four of the 17 Mozambicans who were burnt to death in the Mpumalanga bus crash last week have been positively identified.

The families of the 17 came to Tonga Hospital in Malelane from Mozambique to provide DNA samples to help identify the bodies.

Twenty four other victims were admitted to Tonga Hospital while the rest were transported to Mozambique in another bus.

The accident occurred near Komatipoort last Thursday after a tyre reportedly burst, causing the driver to lose control.

The bus then rolled several times before hitting a tree - and then bursting into flames.

The bus was from Carletonville to Mozambique.

Vaal-Maseru Bus Company, owners of the fateful bus, has promised to help with the burials.
