It is common knowledge that the law places enormous responsibilities on those who enforce it. They are expected to behave in a manner that protects the integrity of the police uniform at all times.

Just as the law takes a dim view on criminals shooting at police, the same applies in the case of rogue elements in the Johannesburg Metro Police, who used live ammunition to prevent riot police from breaking their blockade in Johannesburg on Tuesday night.

Wage grievances naturally enjoy public sympathy - but hardly so rogue behaviour, especially by the police.
