Off-duty policeman shot dead
Three men have been arrested for the murder of a Richmond police officer.
The men were found in possession of the victim's 9mm Z88 service pistol just hours after they allegedly shot the off-duty policeman in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, on Sunday evening.
Constable Dumisani Majola was with his girlfriend when he heard a neighbour being attacked.
When he tried to intervene Majola was shot several times by the robbers.
Police spokesman Henry Budhram said the arrests took place after an intensive investigation by the SAPS's Richmond crime prevention unit under station commissioner Superintendent Jody Riley.
He said two of the suspects, aged 16 and 18, were arrested in Imbali, the area where the robbery took place, and the third was arrested in the Msinga area near Tugela Ferry.
Budhram said one more suspect was on the loose but the police were in hot pursuit and expected to arrest him very soon.
He said investigations were continuing.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg magistrates' court soon.
