The working class in Polokwane, Limpopo, will soon smell pasta while they eat pap after the launch of an inclusive housing project by Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu yesterday.
The project, called Extension 100, was officially launched at Bendor, the leafy suburb east of Polokwane where low- and middle-income earners will be integrated.
The project is about seven kilometres from the city centre and three kilometres from the industrial area.
The site will consist of 17 hectares of land and only houses approved for integrated sustainable human settlement will be built.
The objective is to ensure that the working class can walk to work to cut down expenses.
About 95percent of the people who work in the city travel between 20km and 70km to and from their workplaces daily.
"About 661 houses will be built for middle wage earners, 198 for peasants, 147 for those earning more than R3500 and 289 for people earning less than R10000 a month," local government and housing MEC Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said.
