Family Day thrills at horse racing carnival

The yearly Steinhoff International Corporate Family Day takes place at the North Rand Training Centre in Randjesfontein on Sunday from 10am.

The yearly Steinhoff International Corporate Family Day takes place at the North Rand Training Centre in Randjesfontein on Sunday from 10am.

The day will be packed with excitement and fun, exposing visitors to the thrill of thoroughbred racing with eight races carded.

The races include the Steinhoff International Handicap and R100000 Unitrans Juvenile Stakes.

Racing starts at noon AND continues throughout the the rest of the day, featuring some of the country's top thoroughbreds and celebrated jockeys.

Entertainment lined up for the day includes tote betting, human "fun" races and skydivers.

In addition there will be a huge kiddies' play area with pony and camel rides, a mechanical bull, bungee jumping, carousels, face painters and jumping castles to keep children entertained throughout the day.

Food and drinks will be on sale from the many fast food outlets. A beer garden will also be available onsite. Families who want to enjoy a family lunch can book shaded picnic sites for R800.

The sites cater for 10 people and include a table, chairs, braai facilities and a free Computaform, Phumelela's official racecard. To book a site, contact Debbie Hawkins on 011 681 1802.

Alternatively, find a suitable area on the grass and enjoy a great day's racing in the countryside.

Admission is R30 for motorists and R10 for a person on foot. Secure parking is available.
