Julius Malema is the new president of the ANC Youth League .
Malema got 1883 votes, beating Saki Mofokeng with a margin of 190.
Mofokeng, an IT businessman who was also a member of the NEC, received 1693 votes.
Other new member are Andile Lungisa (deputy president) Vuyiswa Thulelo (secretary-general), Samuel Ngovheni (deputy secretary) and Pule Mabe (treasurer).
The conference was earlier turned into a battlefield: some delegates threw items at each and others exchanged blows.
While the ANCYL leadership battle may seem over, our sources at the conference say some delegates are unhappy with the results.
It is understood that seven provinces were pushing for a recount of the votes.
Another source said the leadership was locked in serious discussions in an effort to resolve the issue by late yesterday afternoon .
It is understood that the objection raised may result in the ANCYL opting to set another date for fresh elections.
The ANCYL is also understood to be eagerly waiting for direction from the mother-body, the ANC.
Malema sprang into politics as a young pioneer - at the age of 14 - through the Mashupatsela programme of the ANC.
He never looked back. He served as secretary and chairman of Cosas in Limpopo and subsequently became national president.
"His ambitions to see things done according to the Freedom Charter made him work tirelessly for the youth of Limpopo as if his life depended on liberation and service delivery," said provincial chairman Joshua Matlou..
Malema, who is studying communications with Unisa, said he was ready to take the youth league to greater heights.
"Leaders are not born, but produced by experience," said. "I believe the political knowledge I gained from the organisation since I was 14 will help me lead and work as a team with my colleagues."
