A former community liaison officer for a home-based care centre briefly appeared in court on Friday on fraud and corruption charges of more than R135000.

Jacqueline Ndashe, 23, worked at the Verulam home-based care centre before her recent resignation.

She was not asked to plead at the Barberton magistrate's court in Mpumalanga and was granted R500 bail pending her next court appearance on May 8.

"Our investigations have shown she used more than R135000 for her own benefit of money earmarked for orphans at the institution," said organised crime unit spokesman Leonard Hlathi yesterday.
