Spokesman Malcolm Mokomene said the incident took place on Saturday night when a fight broke out between the two brothers.
Mokomene said Sifiso Shabangu, 20, was hacked in the head by his brother William and was taken to hospital where he was admitted with serious injuries. William was arrested.
Mokomene also said there were 16 reported incidents of rape in the province at the weekend. Six minors aged between three and 17, and 10 women aged between 19 and 49 were raped.
Most of the attackers were known to the victims. No arrests have been made yet for the rape incidents. - Sapa
