The stage is set for Absa Premiership team Platinum Stars to take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly after their 1-1 draw away with US Stade Tamponnaise of Reunion on Saturday.

Stars went through 3-1 on aggregate, having won the first leg 2-0. A Hareaipha Marumo first-half strike from Koketso Mmotong's cross put The Tycoons ahead before Tamponnaise equalised in the 65th minute.

The 2-0 lead taken by the South Africans to the Indian Ocean island was a result of a highly tactical first-leg match played in Rustenburg two weeks ago, where Marumo and midfielder Steve Lekoelea were the goalscorers on the day.

The daunting task of attempting to get past the Egyptians later this month does not faze them, said Stars PRO Thamaga Ti Mokgopi.

The Egyptians were drawn against Eritrea's Al Tahrir, who withdrew from the competition.

"This match was one of the toughest we ever had to play. Those who do not give us a chance against Al Alhy will see miracles. Our opponents have won their league a record five times, and we are obviously over the moon with the result."

l Ajax Cape Town hammered Rense of the Seychelles 4-1 (5-1 on aggregate) in their Confederations Cup tie in the Seychelles on Saturday. The goalscorers were Nathan Paulse with a brace, Brett Evans and an own goal by Bernard Rose.
