These are trying times for both Orlando Pirates and offspring Jomo Cosmos, who battle it out at Johannesburg Stadium tomorrow night at 8pm

The clash comes at a time when strikers of the two sides have been firing blanks, which is a cause of concern for coaches Owen Da Gama and Jomo Sono.

It is high time that the strikers of the two clubs have start justifying the big salaries they earn at the end of every month.

Pirates threw away a massive seven points in their last three Absa Premiership matches -- grabbing a disappointing two points out of a possible nine.

They played to two goalless draws -- against Golden Arrows and Black Leopards -- and went down 2-1 to Thanda Royal Zulu.

In those three games, Pirates have scored only one goal, a trend which has seen them gradually blowing their golden opportunity of winning the championship title.

They lured experienced Gilbert Mushangazhike back to South Africa from China to ease the pressure on Excellent Walaza.

But the feast of goals they expected is still a dream.

Pirates, who were at some stage strong contenders to walk away with the R10 million first prize, are fourth on the log with 25 points from 23 games.

They trail log leaders SuperSport United and second-placed Ajax Cape Town by nine and eight points respectively.

Only three points separate them from Santos, who are third on the log and playing their best football in many seasons,.

What makes matters worse is that the man who usually makes Amabhakabhaka tick, Teko Modise, is out on a one- match suspension.

On the other hand, Cosmos might be playing well but their failure to convert their chances into goals has seen them going down to the relegation zone.

While many experts are worried about the future of Ezenkosi in the Premiership, Sono is adamant that they are going nowhere.

Sono must have thought he would end the goal drought when he recalled Nkosinathi "Chippa" Nhleko from Norway. But the situation seems to be getting worse.

In their five league matches, Cosmos failed to score a single goal - including an own goal - where they collected five points.

Tomorrow's match will be decided in the middle of the park where either Gerald Modabi or Oupa Manyisa will fill in the gap created by the absence of Modise.
