The Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, crime prevention unit arrested 27 people during a routine stop-and-search operation, Gauteng police said yesterday.

Captain Mega Ndobe said nine people were arrested late on Wednesday for common assault and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

One person was arrested for robbery and two for malicious damage to property.

Two were arrested for urinating in public, one for trespassing and two others for using vulgar language.

One person was arrested for shoplifting and another for domestic violence.

Eight people were arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants.

All those arrested will appear in the Germiston and Natalspruit magistrates' courts on Thursday, Ndobe said. - Sapa
