Studies have shown that in the level of poverty is lower in countries where there is a high rate of literacy. The economy is also healthier and people have a longer lifespan.
As a South African and resident of Mpumalanga it bothers me that there is no university here. I think it is high time that a world-class university be established in the province.
Someone must take responsibility for this problem. Our Constitution says education is a right, but it appears this right is limited in Mpumalanga.
How will the problem of poverty be eradicated if the people of this province cannot get educated?
South Africans are confronted by serious issues such as HIV, poverty, soaring food prices and education should be one of main priorities. The time for campaigning is over and it is time for implementation.
Instead of engaging in a fruitless meeting with Helen Zille about the future of the Scorpions, Jacob Zuma should attend to this issue because it is urgent.
