Media rebels must be honest about racism

I thought it was the plot of a really corny movie when I heard that a Leon Schuster film was being shot at the racist-owned Broederstroom resort that was hauled before the courts last year for restricting their custom to white visitors.

I thought it was the plot of a really corny movie when I heard that a Leon Schuster film was being shot at the racist-owned Broederstroom resort that was hauled before the courts last year for restricting their custom to white visitors.

The racism reportedly continues unabated.

A local radio station recently made a statement against racism by gatecrashing a Forum for Black Journalists meeting. Sceptics accused them of selective publicity seeking.

It would be a wonderful gesture to prove their bona fides and to hone in on a far more detestable racist incident if the same group of media protesters, including the bristling radio station head honcho, arrived en masse at the resort and demanded entry.

But I fear they will get a far more hostile reception than from the bunch of privacy-seeking black journos.
