Following their superb hosting of the Nedbank Matha Series last weekend, Limpopo Athletics (Lima) will hold its provincial youth and junior track and field championships at Peter Mokaba Stadium, in Polokwane, on Saturday.

The event starts at 9am.

Lima president, Kakata Maponyane, said the championships would culminate in the selection of the squad that for the national competition scheduled for LC de Villiers Stadium in Tshwane from April 18 to 19.

The meeting was initially scheduled for Peter Mokaba Stadium, but had to be moved to Tshwane because of some technical problems at the Polokwane venue.

"We expect the competition to be tough because it is every athlete's wish to represent his or her province in the national championships," Maponyane said.

"We hope to select a strong squad that will not add to the numbers but will bring medals to Limpopo.

"I congratulate Caster Semenya, who qualified in the 1500m and 800m for the Confederation of Southern African Schools Association (Cosasa) championships, billed for May 1 to May 3 in Boksburg," Maponyane said.
