With less than a month to go before Africa's richest horse race, the Gommagomma Challenge, the Gauteng autumn season gets into full swing with the hosting of Classic Day at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday.
With less than a month to go before Africa's richest horse race, the Gommagomma Challenge, the Gauteng autumn season gets into full swing with the hosting of Classic Day at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday.
This equestravaganza will feature five main races, with a whopping R3,5million in prize money to be shared among the best performing connections.
The day's headline race, the R l,2million Grade 1 SA Classic, will be run over 1800m and features some of the best thoroughbreds on the Highveld racing scene.
Other Grade 1 races include the R1million SA Fillies Classic and the R1million Horse Chestnut Stakes.
Included in the day's line-up are two races for juveniles, the Protea Stakes and Pretty Polly Stakes.
There will also be lots of entertainment on-course for the whole family, including live entertainment in the Piazza.
A kiddies' play centre will be available for under-12s and refreshments, food stalls and beer gardens will be plentiful on the day.

Entrance to the race day is FREE and gates open at 10am. Secure public parking is available.
