Gauteng police have warned people who advertise goods for sale to be on the lookout for robbers and fraudsters.

Captain Jan Sepato yesterday said that criminals, specifically in the Silverton area, had either defrauded advertisers with false cheques or robbed them when they came to deliver the goods.

In one case a Sandton woman who had advertised her Mini Cooper for sale drove the car to Silverton to meet a man who said he wanted the car.

She was paid by cheque that later proved to be fraudulent.

The second case is of a man who advertised a motorbike for sale. He was contacted by a man who said he wanted to buy the bike.

The man loaded the bike into a van and went to meet the prospective buyer.

When he arrived at the meeting point he was held at gunpoint and both his van and motorcycle were stolen. - Sapa
