The Keep Fit Soccer League received a sponsorship of R40000 from Carlsberg to stage their tournament this week.

The inaugural competition was launched at Dobula Place in Zondi, Soweto, at the weekend and will kick off on Saturday.

A total of 40 teams will compete in the tournament, which will be divided into eight pools.

It will be played on a round-robin basis.

Two top teams from each pool will automatically qualify for the last-16 stage, with the semifinals and finals billed for May 6.

An excited Jeff Tsatsi, the association's publicist, said: "Our association is going forward and making progress.

"We are excited that Carlsberg saw it fit to help us in staging the competition."

Vusi Kunene, the sponsors' marketing and distribution manager, said his company was part of the game.

"It is our social responsibility to help organisations such as KFSL in their move to develop football in Soweto," he added. - Meshack Khota
