Spokesman Boiki Tsedu said the accident happened two kilometres from the Polokwane Ultracity Garage at about 8.40pm on Thursday.
It is alleged that the driver of a BMW travelling towards Johannesburg was killed when his vehicle smashed into the truck, said Tsedu.
"The driver of the BMW rammed into the truck, lost control of the vehicle and then hit a tree,"Tsedu said.
"His car burst into flames. We suspect he was speeding and did not see the truck in time."
