More visitors are expected to stream to the Rand Easter Show at Nasrec as the expo draws to an end on April 6.

By noon yesterday, this year the exp had attracted 205498 shoppers and revellers since it started on March 21.

This is 10000 more visitors than was recorded this time last year, said spokesman Teresa Settas.

Settas said the expo had attracted more families and "serious shoppers with more disposable income".

She said shoppers had shown more interest in "bigger ticket items" such as furniture and appliances.

Exhibitors selling non-electric appliances such as solar geysers and gas stoves had attracted more attention than usual, said Settas.

Ronel Swart of Superior Fireplaces Installation has sold 19 solar geysers at R14000 each since the expo started.

"It makes good business sense for us to sell our goods at the Rand Show," she said.

Swart, who is based in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, said displaying at the expo made their business more visible because consumers talked about it for months after the show was over.

Thanks to visible policing there was less incidents of crime and the show recorded the lowest crime statistics in 19 years.

"We've had the best safety record in 19 years as a direct result of the phenomenal cooperation between the SAPS, JMPD and private security forces," said general manager of consumer shows Ryan Downing.

Of the 27274 cars parked at the show, not a single one was stolen or broken into, said Downing.
