Sergio Mendes's highly anticipated performance at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival lived up to expectation and more.

Drawing one of the largest crowds to the Kippies stage, Mendes took aficionados through a brilliant jazz repertoire, evoking salsa moves from the appreciative audience. Mendes performed the mega hit Maskinada to a highly-charged audience. The Brazilian is truly a maestro.

Another sterling performance was by Oliver Mtukudzi. He went through intricate dance moves effortlessly. By the time the white-clad Zimbabwean left the stage, the audience was delirious.

Star Najee also blew up a storm. Revellers loved the inspired performance as he shared the stage with the brilliant Aito Morreira.

Until you see the Soul Brothers perform and appreciate their choreography, which seems to have been inspired by Motown-era artists, you ain't seen nothing.

The Manhattans might be aging, but if the response to their music was anything to go by, then the romantic serenaders are still masters of their genre.

Music lovers listened to a host of acts including Jimmy Dludlu, Gerald Albright, Kunle Ayo, Skwatta Kamp and many others.
