We must transform society

Norman Arendse and Leonard Chuene play very critical roles in our post-apartheid sports. Our sport is still dominated by whites for reasons I would rather not delve in, save to say that every sector in our economy needs transformation, whether we like it or not.

Norman Arendse and Leonard Chuene play very critical roles in our post-apartheid sports. Our sport is still dominated by whites for reasons I would rather not delve in, save to say that every sector in our economy needs transformation, whether we like it or not.

Apartheid created such sickening imbalances in every strata of our lives that if we do not move with the required speed and efficiency, we are likely to perpetuate what the apartheid system intended to achieve in the first place.

As a young democracy, we need to guard against forces that continue to undermine this transformation, and those elements that would like to see the status quo remain. This should not only happen in sport but in all the sectors of our economy and society.

Those tasked to effect these changes should be protected from those forces who would do anything to undermine our transformation processes. They should be applauded to continue with their sterling work. South Africa is still an abnormal society and the sooner we normalise it, the better.
