Plays are very expensive to stage, so everyone involved in a production hopes it will run for long enough to cover the costs. On December 18, 1816 the one and only performance of JR Rodens's The Play without an A took place in Paris. The whole play was written without the letter "a", which made it hard to perform. The audience rioted during the performance and would not allow the actors to finish.
