Four men suspected of belonging to a gang that has been terrorising residents of Moletsane, Soweto, were arrested at the weekend.

The men, dubbed the "Balaclava Gang", broke into several houses in Moletsane in the past two weeks and robbed occupants of money and cellphones.

Inspector Kay Makhubela said that with help of residents police were able to locate the men, who were found in possession of the stolen goods.

"They will all appear in the Protea magistrate's court today," he said.

Makhubela said more than 200 other people, including 22 illegal immigrants, were arrested in and around Soweto during a crime crackdown operation between Friday and yesterday.

In a separate incident, a female security guard was raped during an armed robbery at Thabamoopo Mental Hospital in Lebowakgomo at the weekend.
