Chants of Uvukile! Uvukile!, Jesus Christ has risen from the dead, resounded through the Daveyton Phomolong Uniting Reformed Church building in Sgodiphola when members of the congregation celebrated Easter Sunday with song and dance.

During the celebration scores of people received Holy Communion administered by the resident priest Reverend Mosimanegape Madimabe.

The Easter celebration is a very important part on the Christian calendar all over the world and serves to remind Christians of Jesus Christ's suffering on the cross and His triumph over death.

Reading from St Mark Chapter 16:1-8 , Madimabe said: "When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdelene, Mary the mother of James and Salome had bought spices so that they might go and anoint Jesus' body.

"Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and asked each other who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?

"But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was large, had been rolled away. As they entered they saw a young man dressed in a white robe.

"The man asked them not to be alarmed because Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified, had risen. The man told them to go and tell Peter and the other disciples the good news of Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead."

Madimabe urged those present to use this period to renew their commitment to God and to their fellow man.
