Rabathoana "Bobo" Moshoadiba has shaped young lives. He prepared his matric pupils for the real world by making sure that they worked hard to earn good grades and then go out and be productive members of their communities.

As a passionate teacher, he dedicated his working life to Emndeni Secondary School in Soweto, where he taught Afrikaans, geography and English. He joined the teaching staff there straight after college in 1990 and, over the years, he endeared himself to both his colleagues and the pupils he taught.

One of his colleagues this week paid tribute to this selfless teacher. "He was an honest man, a disciplinarian and a hard worker. He loved his pupils so much that when he fell ill two weeks ago, he refused to be admitted to hospital because he didn't want his pupils to suffer," said Aggripa Mthembu, a colleague.

"He loved teaching. He was a very approachable man and would go out of his way to help his pupils," he said.

As his health deteriorated, he was eventually admitted to Linksfield Hospital where he died last Saturday.

Born in Tladi, Soweto, in Octotber 1964, Mashoadiba started schooling at Dumelang Primary School before attending Letare Secondary where he matriculated. He then enrolled for a teaching diploma at Soweto College of Education.

A promising footballer in his youth, Mashoadiba played for Tladi West End, Tladi Morning Star, Tladi British Empire and Tladi Milan football clubs.

At the time of his death he was studying for an advance certificate in education with the University of Johannesburg.

Mashoadiba, who was divorced, is survived by a son and a daughter. He will be buried at Lenasia Cemetery on Saturday. The service will be held at the Uniting Reformed Church in Tladi from 8am.
