Music lovers around Pretoria should get ready for an uplifting, rhythmic jazz experience that will come from the sounds of the evergreen Don Laka when he hosts his 50th Birthday Celebration Tour.

Billed to start in Mabopane, Kwaai Jazz fever should spread to all fans and discerning music lovers when the show hits Morula Sun next Sunday at 10.30am.

The Kwaai Jazz experience then goes to Sebokeng in the Vaal Tri-angle before heading for Heidelberg.

Considering the many artists Laka has worked with, it's only right that he shares the stage with some of them.

Set to take the audience down memory lane there are stars such as Herman Fox Manganyi, Oupa "Poys" Makhubela, Zama Jobe, McCoy Mrubata, Gloria Bosman and Palesa.

Laka not only made a name for himself with his extraordinary piano playing skills, but with the smooth, elegant boy group known as Ymage.

Classy and obviously ahead of its time, it featured hotties such as Sello Chicco Twala, Benjamin Dube, Jimmy Mngwandi, Donovan Nox and Godfrey Mgcina.

Laka was also one of the co-founders of one of the most successful record companies in the country. It exploded on the scene, producing hot groups such as Boom Shaka, Trompies, Mafikizolo and Palesa.

The 50th birthday celebration will be a journey through the tumultuous industry, but steering clear of flotsam and staying the course for 30 years.

It will provide a glimpse into the many influences that have shaped his illustrious career. One of those facets is Kwaai Jazz, a genre that has endeared itself to his followers and even his detractors.

His stint at the Civic Theatre two weeks ago was met with great excitement and there is no reason why he won't impress at Morula Sun.

He is a pioneer who defies convention with the free artistic spirit that encompasses his creations.
