Duo charged over slaying

Two men appeared in the Esikhawini magistrate's court on Monday charged with killing a KwaZulu-Natal ward councillor.

Two men appeared in the Esikhawini magistrate's court on Monday charged with killing a KwaZulu-Natal ward councillor.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the two were arrested on Friday, shortly after appearing in court for possession of unlicensed firearms.

During their court appearance prosecutors said ballistic testing showed that the weapons - an AK-47 and R5military rifle - were used to kill councillor Reuben Zibonele Magutshwa in July last year.

The two men will appear again on April 23 to make bail applications.

Magutshwa was shot dead in his car and his killers fled in a getaway car.

Zwane said five other suspects charged for the councillor's murder were expected to appear on May 29. - Sapa
