Six young men have been found not guilty on a charge of attempting to murder restaurant manager Andrew Merryweather, radio station Cape Talk reported yesterday.

The finding was made by a Wynberg regional magistrate, who did however convict one of the youths, Joel Thackwray, of assault on Merryweather's brother.

Merryweather was left partially paralysed by an attack in the forecourt of a petrol station in Newlands, Cape Town, in 2006.

His attorney said earlier that he intended to pursue a civil claim regardless of the outcome of the criminal case. - Sapa
