Hope Worldwide SA is offering a parenting empowerment programme to schools, churches and other interested community development entities.

This non-governmental organisation changes lives by harnessing the compassion and commitment of dedicated staff and volunteers, who deliver high-impact, sustainable, community-based services to the poor and needy.

Hope Worldwide operates on every continent and has served more than a million people annually since 1991.

The parenting empowerment programmes are at present being offered in Botswana, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

In South Africa the programme is already running in Port Elizabeth and Mthatha in Eastern cape, Cape Town and Durban.

A group of parents have been trained in Soweto at workshops held at the Sekano Ntoane High School in Senaoane.

Areas covered include positive parenting skills, such as enhanced self-esteem, learning to understand children's behaviour and listening to children's feelings.

Also building children's self-esteem, assertiveness and engaging cooperation (between adults and children), effective disciplining and problem solving, values and family meetings.

Other components are leadership and facilitation skills, including awareness of self as facilitators of positive parenting skills, dealing with different group dynamics and evaluation and presentation skills.

Candidates attend a total of 10 sessions over five days.

For more details call Hope Worldwide at 011-794-2002 or fax 011-794-3009.
