Top medico Mamosilo Lichaba has made history by becoming the first African appointed on the Federation of International University Sports medical commission.
"It is a great achievement by Mamosilo and we would like to congratulate her," said Malumbete Ralethe, himself a board member of Fisu.
'Her appointment will serve as an inspiration to many other South African and African women who are involved in sport."
Based in Sasolburg in the Free State province, Lichaba is also the medical doctor of Premiership club SuperSport United.
"She has a lot of experience in sport, not only soccer. She has also worked in various local and international competitions, including the All Africa Games," said Ralethe.
Lichaba, who could not be reached for comment, is one of five South Africans who are serving in various commissions of the world governing student sport body.
Others are Malesela "Gogga" Maleka, Dave Carr and Louis Nel.
Ralethe, a prominent doctor in Mokopane in Limpopo, is the vice chairman of Fisu's supervision commission for the World Student Games. Fisu president George Killian is the chairman.
Ralethe is also a member of the Fisu evaluation commission that will decide on the countries bidding to host the 2013 World Student Games.
Maleka, a former South African Student Sports Union president, is serving on the Fisu international press and media commission.
