Great escape!

That best sums up FC AK's qualification to the Nedbank Cup last-16 stage after they were given a fright by Vodacom League side Yebo Yes United.

Bahumi, who need only one point to win the First Division Inland Stream league, beat United 4-3 on penalties at Meadowlands Stadium on Saturday.

This exciting game was decided on penalties after the two sides were deadlocked 2-all after 90 minutes regulation time.

Scorers were Leandra Alves Da Cunha, Alois Bunjira (FC AK), Siyabulela Khali and Mduduzi Nyanda (United) to send the game into extra time.

FC AK and United also failed to score during the 30 minutes extra-time.

During the penalty shootout, Charles Yohane, Oscar Ramogoadi, Brazilian Da Cunha and Elasto Kapoweza.

For the young and enterprising United, those who converted were Stephen Nyambi, Dan Moholoane and Muzi Nene.

It came as no surprise when a clearly relieved FC AK's coach Ali Akan told Sowetan after the game that they were lucky to beat United.

"We never played our game and I told my players that this cup was very important to us and we needed a win at all cost."

Yebo Yes coach Patrick Ntshayisa, who is assisted by Johannes "Yster" Khomane, said they struggled a bit but believe they will do well in future.

"We lacked experience and we had it hard against our opponents, but we will be at our best in the next cup games," he said.
