Mobile phone company Cell-C has pumped R120 000 in to the coffers of South African Football Association (Safa) region in Mpumalanga, to stage an Easter tournament.

The soccer tournament will be held between March 21 and 24.

Themba Shube, Mpumalanga Safa secretary, said: "The tournament will involve teams campaigning in the SAB Castle Regional League only. It will be divided into four categories.

"Teams from Enkangala, Gert Sibande, Ehlanzeni and Bushbuckridge will be competing for each category, dividing the sum to R30 000 each stream."

Shube called on other companies to become involved in developing football in the province.

"We are delighted with what Cell-C has done and are pleading with more companies to take a leaf out of what they have done," he said.

"We are struggling to have a team in the Premiership.

"We need tournaments where we can expose teams to competitive football," said Shube.

The cellphone company sponsors similar tournaments in Gauteng and KwaZulu- Natal, which they started in 2005.

Cell-C , event co-ordinator, Phindile Khumalo said: "Our company is looking forward to making the event a yearly one.

"This will depend on the supporters and the behaviour of teams during this pilot event."

The draw will be conducted next week.
