Ikapa Sporting coach Sergio do Santos says their aim is to fare well in the Nedbank Cup to earn some respect after their doleful campaign in the National First Division (NFD) this season.

Do Santos' mission is to spring surprises in their campaign in the tournament, starting tomorrow against the wounded Bloemfontein Celtic in the last-32 stage of the inaugural competition.

The match kicks off at 3pm at Erica Park Stadium in Cape Town.

Phunya Selesele go into this match smarting from a midweek 0-2 setback against Platinum Stars.

Do Santos, who played and coached at Kaizer Chiefs, Cape Town Spurs and Hellenic, said they would use the tournament to recover from their disappointing league run in the Coastal Stream of the NFD.

"I would be lying if I say I'm happy with our performance in the league this season," Do Santos said yesterday.

"I assembled a good team, but I was let down by some of my senior players. But we have put our bad memories in the league behind us and are all focused on this cup.

"We have to believe that we have a chance of beating Celtic on Saturday."

Kumbulani Konco, Celtic's manager, said yesterday:

"This match has come at the right time when we want to return to our winning ways."
