Kaizer Chiefs stalwart defender David "King" Obua, said yesterday Amakhosi will not win the Absa Premiership championship this season, but will continue to fight for a respectable position on the log.
Speaking during the club's open day session at Naturena, the Ugandan international said he believed that either Ajax or SuperSport United could win the title, provided they maintained their consistency.
But some of the Chiefs players Sowetan spoke to were adamant that anything was possible, refusing to give up on the he lucrative title.
"This is a tough league, but realistically it is out of our reach. We have to work hard and be positive to take Amakhosi back to where they belong," said Obua.
But Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala said it was not over yet as far as the league championship was concerned.
"We've been playing well, but have not been scoring goals - seemingly luck has not been on our side. But I'm not going to back down because there are a lot of possibilities that can occur because the league is a marathon.
"We're left with eight matches and we are taking one game at a time, so with consistency we may end up at the top of the table."
Midfielder Tinashe Nengomashe said they had not been doing well because goals had been eluding them.
"Although we're not within reach of the title, we're not going to throw in the towel yet but fight until the last game because the league is unpredictable."
Defender Mokete Tsotetsi said the chances were there to win the league even if it was tough.
"We need to be focused and positive, we may go the remaining games unbeaten, who knows?"
Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune said it was too soon to talk about their chances of being crowned league kings.
"Hopefully things can turn out for the better and we may bounce back. But anything can happen."
Team manager Bobby Motaung said their win over Free State Stars did not surprise them because they have been playing well.
