League more important than cup for Thanda

Thanda Royal Zulu public relations officer Thabang Gumede, whose side are third from the bottom of the log, believes the league is much more important than the cup.

He said this ahead of their Nedbank round of 32 match against Mpumalanga Black Aces at Atlantic Stadium in Witbank on Sunday.

"Our focus is on the league because we need to improve our position on the log. Playing Aces is not going to be easy because they have experienced players but we're going to give it our best shot."

Aces' spokesman Thabo Morwapo said: "They will be like sheep to the slaughter. We're going to make sure we finish them off."

Bernard Parker, Serge Djiehoua, Scara Ngobese, Patrick Mayo and company stand in their way.

The youthful Aces side will be marshalled by the experienced Edelbert Dinha and Esau Motsweni. Up front Madoda "Bazuka" Motha and Emmanuel Emonike a big threat to Thanda.

l Bloemfontein Young Tigers, a club that is looking to restore their pride and prestige, go down to Matatiele to play Matat Professionals in the Nedbank Cup at Thandanani Stadium on Sunday.

In 1999 Tigers made it to the semifinals of the BobSave Super Bowl but lost 0-2 to Kaizer Chiefs. They are meeting an unknown Matatiele outfit and could come back empty-handed.

Their coach, former Chiefs midfielder Fetsi "Chippa" Molatedi, said the game will also serve as a dress rehearsal for the National Vodacom playoffs in May.
