Classic FC hope to transfer their winning league form to the Nedbank Cup when they entertain Vasco da Gama at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Saturday at 3pm.
But Yizo Yizo, who are guided by former Mahwelereng Real Rovers goalkeeper Joel Mongalo, are preparing for stiff opposition from Da Gama.
"There is no need to motivate them [the players] further, they all know there is a lot at stake," said Mongalo, who is making a name for himself in coaching circles.
"Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is on a mission to create a big pool of players ahead of the 2010 World Cup to give the technical staff more options.
"A tournament of this nature is a great platform to attract the attention of national selectors. We are playing at home and cannot afford to lose."
Mongalo joined Sinky Mnisi's Classic from Mokopane Academy, whom he guided to the Vodacom League national playoffs.
"This tournament will also help us to prepare for the playoffs. We would like to see ourselves in the First Division next season," said Mongalo.
Da Gama official Phillip Ribeiro said: "The tournament provides great exposure for the club as well as the opportunity to test ourselves against the best in the country."
With former Hellenic player Carlos das Neves in charge of the technical staff, Da Gama have exciting players like Darren Keet and Leonard Casner to watch.
Yizo Yizo have two former professional players in captain Hlaole Motaung and Saki Nthite, who played for the original Classic in the Premiership.
l In another Nedbank Cup game on Sunday at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Nathi Lions take on North West Shinning Stars, coached by former Bafana Bafana defender Themba Mnguni.
"We made a big mistake by underestimating a team from the lower ranks [Hanover Park] last season in the same competition," said Nathi Maphumulo, Lions' chairman. "We will be ruthless this time round."
Sello Ntsoko, Stars' chairman, is confident they will show Lions an early exit.
Lions will pin their hopes on the likes of Philane Khoza, Christopher Ndaba and Vusimusi Mazibuko.
Mnguni has assembled a formidable side which includes striker Richard Lishivha, a former Kaizer Chiefs and Black Leopards player.
