Two high-ranking SABC managers have defended flamboyant Lesedi FM presenter Thuso Motaung in his fraud case in the Johannesburg commercial crimes court.

Suspended station manager Pula Pula Mothibi and programmes manager Mohlalefi "Wire" Khoali said in court yesterday that Motaung, pictured, had done nothing wrong in advertising the Power Mix product on radio.

Motaung, his wife Mamontha and a business partner, Joshua Ramme, owner of JR Business Analysts and Developers, are on trial for allegedly defrauding the SABC of R32million.

The offences were allegedly committed from 2004 to 2006.

Mothibi said there was an agreement between JR and SABC Radio Active that Ramme would provide Lesedi with calendars and would get airtime in return.

He said all advertisements by JR were "live reads" that made it impossible to limit the time they would take.

He also said DJs were told to use their artistic skills to make them interesting for the listeners.

Mothibi said part of the agreement was that each packet of Power Mix would bear Lesedi's logo and the station would get R1 a packet sold.

He said it was generally known that Motaung, Chomane Chomane and other employees were selling Power Mix. He said Chomane also sold Pap.

"Had anything wrong been going on I would have known about it," Mothibi said.

Khoali said he did advertisement schedules, which were approved by sales manager Tebogo More.

The trial continues.
