Award-winning Limpopo musician Moocah faces charges of statutory rape for allegedly having a relationship with a minor.
Moocah was arrested on Saturday night and spent a night in the Namakgale police cells. He was released on Sunday on warning.
Namakgale police station spokesman Constable Lucy Sekgotodi yesterday confirmed Moocah's arrest.
Sekgotodi said his case was referred to the Phalaborwa police because the alleged incident took place in Phalaborwa at Moocah's house.
Moocah, whose real name is Ali Mokgalaka, is accused of having a relationship with a 15-year- old girl from Majeje village, outside Namakgale near Phalaborwa.
Moocah allegedly started dating the girl on July 7 last year.
He allegedly had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions at his house until they broke up late last year.
The girl, who is a model and has won several modelling crowns in Phalaborwa and Bushbuckridge, was allegedly a virgin when she started having sex with the musician.
The girl had allegedly told her friends that she had sex with Moocah without using a condom.
She also told her guardians that Moocah gave her money after sex and promised to make her famous, Sowetan was told.
The girl's guardian, whose name cannot be released to protect her identity, said: "I knew Moocah as a nice guy who wanted to help my daughter achieve her dream in the modelling industry.
"He came to my house at one stage and said he was shooting a music video with her. I did not suspect anything."
Approached for comment yesterday, Moocah said: "There is someone who is paying people money to fabricate lies about me."
He denied ever dating the girl, saying her parents were forced to open the case by DJ Ditaba because "his girlfriend had dumped him for me". "Ditaba could not stand the fact that the girl loves me. Instead, he went around vilifying me in an endeavour to pay revenge."
Moocah has allegedly impregnated his newly found lover, Monique Leone, 25, who was romantically involved with his best friend, Ditaba Malapane, a popular DJ at Phalaborwa FM.
