Limpopo health and social development MEC Seaparo Sekoati and Musina mayor Caroline Mahasela have urged young people to seize opportunities in the mining industry.

They were speaking at the opening of the Limpopo Youth Mining Indaba at Tshipise near Musina on Sunday.

Sponsored by De Beers Venetia Mine, the three-day indaba is the brainchild of the Limpopo Youth Commission in partnership with the Musina and Blouberg municipalities.

Representing Premier Sello Moloto, Sekoati said there was a dire need for transformation in the mining industry and the youth must play a meaningful role in this regard.

Sekoati said: "Managerial and engineering posts were allocated to a select few but the youth must seize opportunities.

"I have no doubt that the indaba will change your lives and you will see the industry from a different angle," the MEC said.

Mahasela said all the people of Limpopo must benefit from mining opportunities in their areas.

"We urge the youth to apply for employment on the mines."
