Ukhurebor has been battling to recover money he paid for a house through Jawitz Properties in June 2007. The house could not be registered in his name because the seller, Charles Mhlongo, owed the bank more money than the purchase price.
The divorced Ukhurebor, 51, who wanted to buy the house for his six children, said Zulberg and Frank Munnik Attorneys advised him to wait because the house would be registered in his name. But eight months later the transfer had not taken place.
So Ukhurebor decided to cancel the deal and ask for a refund, including the interest.
He said he could not stop thinking about his money accruing interest in the attorneys' trust account.
"I never thought I would have to sweat to get my money back," Ukhurebor said.
Zulberg and Frank Munnik Attorneys said they represented Mhlongo and confirmed that they could not transfer the house to Ukhurebor's name due to circumstances beyond their control.
They also confirmed that Ukhurebor's money was held by them in a trust investment account. They said the interest it was accruing would be paid to Ukhurebor.
"We are stakeholders and will only be able to refund the purchase price to Ukhurebor on agreement between the parties or on the court stipulating that we do so," said Zulberg Frank and Munnik Attorneys.
After an elated Ukhurebor received his money and interest, he told Consumer Line: "I do not know how to thank you."
