It is encouraging to see the government giving a strong warning to individuals who break the law. However, the crime in this instance does not warrant the suggested action. It appears to me that the Gauteng portfolio committee on community safety has little work to do. Given so many challenges faced by our communities regarding public transport, they still find time to debate issues that could be dealt with at police station level.
The statement from the Gauteng transport portfolio committee, if it is true, is a comical action from what is supposed to be a respectable state institution.
