Christian youth organisations in Limpopo have called for the suspension of the South African Students Congress (Sasco) at the University of Limpopo.
Both the African Christian Democratic Party Youth League and the Student Christian Organisation made the call after the killing of a student activist allegedly by Sasco members.
Student Christian Organisation (SCO) member Nkosinathi Lucky Mhlongo was allegedly thrown out of a moving taxi by Sasco members.
The incident happened next to the university when the students were returning from a march in Pretoria.
Three students - Tebane Serumula, Raymond Mabelebele and George Tsoai, who are either members or sympathisers of Sasco - were arrested in connection with the murder two weeks ago.
The three appeared in Mankweng magistrate's court near Polokwane this week charged with murder.
The case was postponed to April 18 for further investigations.
The victim was allegedly attacked and injured for refusing to to join in the singing of struggle songs when the suspects insisted that the Christian students join them after boarding a minibus taxi they were in.
Mandla Manda, a member of SCO, said the suspects first assaulted the other members and turned to Mhlongo when the taxi stopped for refuelling.
Manda says he and several SCO members left the minibus for another one, while the deceased stayed behind in the company of the alleged killers.
ACDP spokesman Maropeng Molepo denounced the alleged conduct of the suspects as "barbaric".
He called for the student community at the university to condemn the murder in the strongest possible terms.
"The ACDP, SCO and the entire Christian society have lost a loyal member owing to senseless political bickering.
"I find it disgusting that in a democratic dispensation there are still people who will oppress others because they are not part of their political affiliation," said Molepo.
Meanwhile, Patrick Makape of the Young Communist League in Limpopo urged the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators faced the full might of the law.
