Sprinter Ofense Mogawane says he has high hopes of qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in the final leg of the Yellow Pages Series at the University of Pretoria tonight.
Mogawane has won the 400m event three times in the Yellow Pages Series this year and he believes his achievement in the series is enough motivation for him to finally qualify for the Olympics tomorrow.
"The three consecutive400m victories in Potchefstroom, eThekwini and Germiston inthe series proved that I have regained my form andconfidence and I'm ready for Pretoria on Friday," Mogawane said.
Other South African sprinters who will be using tomorrow's event to book berths to the Olympics are Hannes Dreyer and Isabel le Roux.
The three athletes have enjoyed a string of victoriesin the series and will be competing on familiar territory since they all train at the Pretoria venue.
Estie Wittstock, who clocked 52,38 seconds in eThekwini and 52,56 in Germiston in the women's 400m event, is also set to enjoy homeground advantage tomorrow.
Wittstock is chasing the Olympic A qualifier of 51,55 seconds.
The vastly improved Dreyer faces an enormous challenge attempting to qualify for the 100 (10,21) and 200 (20,59) in the men's division.
Le Roux registered an impressive victory at her home town of Oudtshoorn last Saturday and looks set to qualify for the Olympics in the 200 in Tshwane.
She is also keen to do well at the senior national championships in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, next weekend.
Commonwealth Games high jump champion Anika Smit and long jumper Yaw Fosu-Amoah are also expected to push for Olympic qualification tomorrow.
Smit cleared the bar at 1,85m in eThekwini and Germiston, while Fosu-Amoah is upbeat about his prospects after leaping to 7,97m in the long jump.
