Heading the event, which is co-sponsored by Knockout Promotions, Golden Gloves and Emperors Palace, is South Africa's knockout specialist Khotso Motau, who is now campaigning as a super middleweight.
The "Iceman" could have a tough opponent on his hands when he takes on Farai Musiyiwa, a man who is reputed to be a good hitter himself. With his sights on the international scene, though, it's hard to see any local junior middleweight competing on an even keel with the jaw-splintering puncher from Soweto.
With tickets for the event on sale at R250 each, tournament organiser Jeff Ellis believes he'll soon run out of tables, and that's even before announcing the entire bill.
"This tournament will prove to be a real firecracker event and besides the main fight, which is scheduled for eight rounds, we also have former SA champion Anthony van Niekerk boxing on the night, although his opponent has not yet been finalised," said Ellis.
Also featured on the tournament roster are exciting fighters such as Tony Elefteriou, a young man built like one of the legendary Spartan warriors of old, Jeremy Holt and cruiserweight newcomer Jared Lovett. Another young boxer to watch is Lee Dyer, a sharp-shooting middleweight with lots of promise. - Sapa
