When the central bank tightens consumers' belts, they drink more tea and eat more biscuits, AVI's interim results show.

The group, whose brands include Five Roses tea and Bakers biscuits, posted 10percent revenue growth to R3,6billion in the six months to December 31. It grew its profit margins despite soaring food inflation, and an interim dividend of 33c a share will be paid.

AVI's biggest revenue generator is its frozen foods division which includes the I&J's seafood range.- Robert Laing
