In school athletics circles, Tshwane is known for its good and consistent performances against other Gauteng regions.

This year is no different, and as the region prepares to take on the rest of Gauteng in the provincial secondary schools championships, officials are positive the athletes will again impress.

The team consists of under-15, under-17 and under-19 boys and girls.

The championships take place at Germiston stadium tomorrow and Saturday, and Tshwane is taking a team of 130 athletes who will compete against the likes of Gauteng Central, Gauteng East and the Vaal.

Team selection took place at the district championships at Pilditch Stadium on February 16.

George Parker, district sport coordinator, said unlike last year, there were no real problems.

"We experienced a few hiccups last year, but this year everything went according to plan. The athletes themselves were outstanding throughout, and I feel we are justified in expecting them to play an important part in tomorrow's proceedings," Parker said.
