Sejacufe a damp squib

the Secunda Jazz and Culture Festival last Saturday was meant to be the biggest event of the year, but it turned out to be a total fiasco.

The yearly festival in Secunda, Mpumalanga, better known as Sejacufe, has been a great success in the past, but this time it hardly attracted any music lovers.

Bad marketing is one of the reasons that Sejacufe failed.

The event kicked off on Friday night with a well organised gala dinner that attracted the crem é de la crem é of the business world.

But on Saturday, the event started late because the fans arrived in drips and drabs. By 4pm, there were only about 50 people in the stadium. Local bands performed for the police officers, traffic cops and security personnel on duty. At 6pm, some people started trickling in.

Despite the poor turnout, Siphokazi, Freshlyground, Bhudaza Maphefane, Peter Nthwane, Khanyo Maphumulo and Ntando delivered what they were paid for.

Maphumulo kick-started the show at 6pm with a performance that left people begging for more.

Nthwane sent the audience into a frenzy. Bhudaza , the popular singer from Lesotho, also gave a splendid performance.

Ntando and Siphokazi performed equally well while Freshlyground wrapped up the show with a high note.
